H.W. Brands

H. W. Brands holds the Jack S. Blanton Sr. Chair in History at the University of Texas at Austin. He has written more than a dozen biographies and histories, including The General vs. the President, a New York Times bestseller, and The Zealot and the Emancipator, his most recent book. Two of his biographies, The First American and Traitor to His Class, were finalists for the Pulitzer Prize.

Cary Clack

Cary Clack is a San Antonio Express-News columnist and editorial Board member. In 2017, he was inducted into the Texas Institute of Letters and in 2020 won the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors Star Opinion Writer of the Year. He’s completing what will be the first anthology of Black Texas writers to be published by Texas A&M University Press as part of the Wittliff Collections’ Book Series.
