
Ricardo Nuila
Dr. Ricardo Nuila is a writer, teacher, and practicing doctor. He is an associate professor of medicine, medical ethics, and health policy at Baylor College of Medicine, where he directs the Humanities Expression and Arts Lab (HEAL) program. Additionally, he is a writer with pieces appearing in Texas Monthly, Houston Chronicle, The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Atlantic and (of course) The New England Journal of Medicine. His short stories have appeared in the Best American Short Stories anthology, McSweeney’s and The New England Review, which awarded him its inaugural Emerging Writer’s Award. His debut book, The People’s Hospital, follows the lives of five uninsured Houstonians as their struggle for survival leads them to a hospital where insurance comes second to genuine care.
