The San Antonio Book Festival High School Fiction Contest Award Presentation will take place during the San Antonio Book Festival on April 5th at 11:00 a.m. in the Swartz Room on the 2nd floor of the Central Library. San Antonio Poet Laureate Carmen Tafolla will emcee, while local poet and Trinity creative writing professor Jenny Browne will read first place stories to the audience. King Antonio will also be there to present checks to winners on behalf of the Texas Cavaliers, the contest’s sponsor.
The first place winner in the 9-10th grade category was Rhyanne Saul, a ninth grader at North East School of the Arts (NESA) and in the 11-12th grade category, Jessica Redmon, an eleventh grader at Sam Houston High School was the winner. Both first place stories were published in the Rivard Report.
Second place and third place winners in the 10-11 Grade category include: second place – Margaret Stephens, tenth grade, NESA; and third place – Austin Tillotson, ninth grade, East Central High School. In the 11-12 Grade category, second place and third place winners include: second place – Holly Rice, twelfth grade, NESA; and third place – Daniela Sandoval, twelfth grade, Southwest High School.
Also presenting will be Emma Hodgson, a 10th grader from Alamo Heights High School, who has published her first book Artemis Rising.
