The 2027 San Antonio Book Festival (SABF) will take place on April 10, 2027. SABF will present approximately 100 authors at the annual event, from Texas and beyond, whose books are first published within a year of the Festival (April 15, 2026 – April 15, 2027).

Please note:
  • Submissions open on June 15, 2026 and close on December 11, 2026.
  • Due to the high number of submissions received during that six-month submission period, SABF is unable to acknowledge receipt of forms or books.
  • Submitted materials will not be returned. Books not selected for the line-up are donated to schools, libraries, and hospitals.
  • Should you be selected to be a part of the Festival program, you will hear back no later than February 5, 2027. Due to the high number of submissions, we are unable to respond to inquiries if a book has not been selected.

Please fill out the form linked and below AND we will also need to receive one (1) copy of a finished book/galley/ARC/bound manuscript by mail. Please send to:

Frequently Asked Questions

Books should be submitted between June 15, 2026 and December 11, 2026. Submitting your book earlier is appreciated, as there are many books to review. Submissions received after December 11, 2026 will not be considered.

SABF’s Literary Director considers the submissions and, with the assistance of staff and a Programming Committee of authors and writing professionals, selects the lineup. While evaluating submissions, we consider not only a book’s literary merit but where it might fit in with rest of the lineup and the reading habits of our San Antonio audience.

  • Fiction, including all genres such as thrillers and Westerns
  • Narrative nonfiction—history, biography, memoir, and essays
  • Poetry
  • Young People’s Literature—picture books, early reader, middle grade, young adult, etc.
  • Art and Architecture titles
  • Cookbooks and food-related titles

SABF will present anywhere from 90 to 100 authors at the annual event, from Texas and beyond, whose books are published within a year of the Festival (April 15, 2026 – April 15, 2027).

SABF focuses on the promotion of literature and Texas literary culture. Books solely on the topics of self-improvement or how-to, books by authors who are deceased, or books strictly of academic or religious interest will not be considered. We do not consider books that use art (including cover art) and/or written content created by artificial intelligence (AI). At this time we do not consider books available only in e-book or audio format. For the 2027 SABF, we will only consider books published within a year of the Festival (April 15, 2026 – April 15, 2027).

We typically do not accept books published through self-publishing platforms and services. However, exceptions have been made. We welcome all author submissions that meet the below criteria:

  • The book has, or will have upon publication, an EAN barcode, an ISBN, and a LCCN number.
  • The title is bound, and printed copies are available, or will be available, for purchase via an established wholesaler or distributor so our partner bookstore can sell them. Checking with your publisher is advised.
  • The book has been professionally edited and a marketing plan is in place.
  • The author maintains an accessible website.

From June 15 – December 11, 2026:
(1) Fill out the form above and linked.

(2) Send two copies of the book to:

Galleys, ARCs, and bound manuscripts are fine if you do not yet have finished copies.

We have become aware of multiple scam attempts wherein writers are invited to participate in SABF for a free. These communications are fraudulent and not affiliated with SABF.

Any email claiming to come from the San Antonio Book Festival that does not end in @sabookfest.org is not legitimate. We are a literary arts nonprofit organization, and we do not charge authors to be featured in our festival or any of our events.

If you have been contacted by anyone claiming to work for SABF whose email doesn’t end in @sabookfest.org, please do not engage, and email us at SABF@sabookfest.org.
