Our four Book It! authors have been revealed!

Book It! Luncheons are an opportunity to sit down to an intimate lunch with a Festival author and eight companions. They’re based on the premise that everyone needs to eat while they’re at the Book Festival, so why not dine with a Festival author? 

For the 6th annual SABF on April 7, we will once again offer four Book It! Luncheons at the nearby Club Giraud. All funds raised from Book It! luncheons will benefit the San Antonio Book Festival.

Francisco Cantú

Francisco Cantú served as an agent for the United States Border Patrol in the deserts of Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas from 2008 to 2012. A former Fulbright fellow, he is the recipient of a 2017 Whiting Award. His essays and translations have been featured on This American Life and in Best American Essays, Harper’s, Guernica, Orion, n+1 and Ploughshares. He lives in Tucson, Arizona. The Line Becomes a River will be published by Riverhead Books in February 2018.

Elizabeth Crook

Elizabeth Crook has published five novels, including The Night Journal, which received the Spur Award from Western Writers of America, Monday, Monday, winner of the Jesse H. Jones Award from The Texas Institute of Letters, and The Which Way Tree, published recently by Little, Brown and optioned for film by Robert Duvall and co-producers at Maverick Films LLC, with Duvall to star. Elizabeth lives in Austin with her family. 

David Litt

David Litt entered the White House in 2011 and left in 2016 as a special assistant to the president and senior presidential speechwriter. Described as the “comic muse for the president,” David was the lead writer on four White House Correspondents’ Dinner presentations and has contributed jokes to President Obama’s speeches since 2009. He is currently the head writer/producer for Funny or Die’s office in Washington, DC. David has also written for The Onion, McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, Cosmopolitan, Vanity Fair, The Atlantic, and The New York Times. He lives in Washington with his girlfriend and their two goldfish, Humphrey and Camille.

Luis Alberto Urrea

A finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for his landmark work of nonfiction The Devil’s Highway, Luis Alberto Urrea is also the bestselling author of the novels The Hummingbird’s Daughter, Into the Beautiful North, and Queen of America, as well as the story collections The Water Museum, a PEN/Faulkner Award finalist. He has won the Lannan Literary Award, an Edgar Award, and a 2017 American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Literature, among many other honors. Born in Tijuana to a Mexican father and American mother, he lives outside of Chicago and teaches at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
