On November 5, 2025, the San Antonio Book Festival held a field trip version of its educational initiative, the Authors in Schools program, and brought celebrated author and illustrator KAZU KIBUISHI to the Carver Cultural Community Center in San Antonio. More than 650 students from schools in SAISD, IDEA Carver, Providence Catholic, and For the Culture Homeschool heard the author talk about his bestselling Amulet series, watched a live drawing demonstration, and celebrated creativity and reading. Each student in attendance received a free copy of one of the books in the Amulet series, signed by Kazu Kibuishi himself.
The SABF’s Authors in Schools is a hands-on literacy initiative that sends nationally recognized authors into Title 1 elementary, middle, and high schools to inspire young readers with dynamic presentations and copies of the authors’ books to build their own personal library.
