Starting in 2021, Nowhere Bookshop, San Antonio’s newest independent bookstore, will be the San Antonio Book Festival’s official bookseller, a role previously filled by Barnes & Noble since the Festival began in 2013. Nowhere Bookshop will award a percentage of book sales to SABF, helping to keep the Festival free and open to the public.
“We’re excited to be partnering with Nowhere Bookshop, a vibrant new addition to the San Antonio literary scene,” said Clay Smith, the Festival’s literary director. “Like us, the staff at Nowhere is deeply invested in growing the world of books and writers in San Antonio. And this new partnership means that the proceeds from book sales during the Festival will stay in San Antonio, supporting our local economy.”
Outside of Book Festival weekend, SABF and Nowhere Bookshop will partner on literary events, including the year-round Get Lit Author Series. Past event collaborations include an event with Lara Prescott (The Secrets We Kept), who was scheduled to appear at the 2020 SABF, and Get Lit with Maria Hinojosa. Two more events are in the works for 2020 and will be announced in the coming weeks.
“We are honored to join the San Antonio Book Festival as their festival bookseller,” said Elizabeth Jordan, Nowhere Bookshop’s general manager. “We are so proud to be a part of this vital local literary event and are excited to further the festival’s mission of connecting readers and authors right here in San Antonio.”
Founded by bestselling author Jenny Lawson, a/k/a The Bloggess, Nowhere Bookshop was slated to open its doors in the spring of 2020, but those plans were delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. While the store remains closed to the public, they are open for curbside pickup Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM – 4PM.
