The stacks of stories have been collected and now judges will decide which area high school students will win for their essays on the theme “A River Runs Through It…” Contest categories included grades 9-10 and grades 11-12, with the top three stories in each category receiving cash prizes of $150 for first place, $100 for second place and $75 for third place. First place fiction writers also earn $500 for their schools. Due to the high number of submissions, the semi-finalist winners will be announced on January 28. The finalists will be announced and recognized on February 4 and their winning essays will be presented at the San Antonio Book Festival on Saturday, April 5, 2014.
