Linda Holmes

Linda Holmes is a pop culture correspondent at NPR and the author of Evvie Drake Starts Over (a Read With Jenna pick and New York Times bestseller) and Flying Solo. She hosts the NPR podcast Pop Culture Happy Hour and appears regularly on NPR shows like Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Weekend Edition. Before NPR, Linda was a writer for the groundbreaking web site Television Without Pity and has also been published by MSNBC.com, Wall Street Journal, and TV Guide. (She also used to be a lawyer for some reason). She lives in Takoma Park, Maryland with her dog, Brian, who fortunately enjoys having his picture taken. Her latest novel is Back After This.

Ashley Alvarado

Ashley Alvarado became president and CEO of Texas Public Radio in December 2024, bringing with her two decades of experience in journalism. Her career spans major organizations like the LA Times, the Center for Investigative Reporting, and LAist (Southern California Public Radio), where she long championed engaged journalism.

At LAist, Ashley led community engagement efforts for a dozen years, working on everything from live events to art installations and answering thousands of community members’ questions. She played a key role in the development of the organization’s diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies. She also oversaw teams focused on audience engagement and news experimentation.

An award-winning journalist, Ashley has also served as a newsroom coach for Blue Engine, Poynter, and the American Press Institute, as well as contributing to leadership programs with the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Asian American Journalists Association. A former president of Journalism That Matters, Ashley is an active member of the executive committee of the Online News Association and serves on the boards of Greater Public and the First Amendment Coalition, as well as Poynter’s National Advisory Board.
