The summer of 2023 was the second-hottest on record in Texas and the whole world is waking up to the new reality of rising temperatures and the extreme climate crisis. Jeff Goodell–an award-winning journalist and recent transplant to Texas–has been at the forefront of environmental journalism for decades and The Heat Will Kill You First: Life and Death on a Scorched Planet is his most important reporting yet.

Jeff Goodell

Jeff Goodell’s latest book is The Heat Will Kill You First: Life and Death on a Scorched Planet. He is the author of six previous books, including The Water Will Come: Rising Seas, Sinking Cities, and the Remaking of the Civilized World, which was a New York Times Critics’ Top Book of 2017. He has covered climate change for more than two decades at Rolling Stone and discussed climate and energy issues on NPR, MSNBC, CNN, CNBC, ABC, NBC, FOX, and The Oprah Winfrey Show. He is a Senior Fellow at the Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center and a 2020 Guggenheim Fellow.

David Martin Davies is a reporter, host and producer at Texas Public Radio. He is the host of The Source and Texas Matters. Davies’ work has been recognized with multiple journalism awards including several national Edward R. Murrow Awards. Davies’ reporting has been featured on National Public Radio, American Public Media’s Marketplace and the BBC. He has written for The San Antonio Light, The San Antonio Express-News, The Texas Observer and other publications.
