About the Event

In The Vaster Wilds, a young servant brought to Jamestown decides to run from the desolation. As she navigates the forest, her journey becomes a study of environmental stewardship and climate change; feminism; and religion and mortality. Three-time National Book Award finalist and one of America’s most evocative writers Lauren Groff will discuss her newest work.

Lauren Groff

Lauren Groff is a three-time National Book Award finalist and the New York Times bestselling author of the novels The Monsters of TempletonArcadiaFates and Furies, and Matrix, and the short story collections Delicate Edible Birds and Florida. She has won the Story Prize and the Joyce Carol Oates Prize, and has been a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Groff’s work regularly appears in The New Yorker, Atlantic, and elsewhere. Her latest book is The Vaster Wilds.

Michael Fischer

Michael Fischer is the Janet S. Dicke Professor in Public Humanities at Trinity University. He has served as a moderator at the San Antonio Book Festival since its inception in 2013.
