Prize-winning historian Paul Gillingham pens a rich and vibrant history of one of the world’s most diverse, politically ground-breaking, and influential countries: Mexico. Mexico: A 500-Year History shows how one country has shaped the course of human lives across the globe—and its impact today.

Paul Gillingham

Paul Gillingham is the author of the prize-winning Cuauhtémoc’s Bones: Forging National Identity in Modern Mexico and Unrevolutionary Mexico: The Birth of a Strange Dictatorship. He is a Professor of Latin American History at Northwestern University.

Gillingham joins the Book Festival to discuss his new book, Mexico: A 500-Year History.

Sarah Zenaida Gould

Sarah Zenaida Gould, PhD, is Executive Director of the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute, an emerging national Mexican American civil-rights history museum and archive. A longtime public historian, she has curated over a dozen exhibits on history, art, and culture. She was formerly the founding director of the Museo del Westside and lead curatorial researcher at the Institute of Texan Cultures. Gould serves on the boards of the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission and Texans for the Arts and as an Advisor for the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She received a BA in American Studies from Smith College and an MA and a PhD in American Culture from the University of Michigan. She is a former fellow at the National Museum of American History, the Winterthur Museum, and the American Antiquarian Society.
