About the Event

Two new full-color graphic-novel adaptations take on two classic middle-grade series: Erin Hunter’s Warriors and Shannon Messenger’s Keeper of the Lost Cities. Illustrators Sara Goetter and Natalie Riess (Warriors Graphic Novel: The Prophecies Begin, Volume 3) and author Shannon Messenger (Keeper of the Lost Cities The Graphic Novel Part 2: Volume 1) will talk about high-stakes stories, adapting books into graphic novels, and the lifelong impact of reading on young people.

Please note that for this session ASL interpretation will be offered by SAI Language Solutions, thanks to our generous Accessibility Sponsor, Community First Health Plans.

Shannon Messenger

Shannon Messenger graduated from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, where she learned—among other things—that she liked watching movies much better than making them. She studied art, screenwriting, and television production but realized her real passion was writing for kids and teens. She’s the internationally, New York Times, and USA Today bestselling author of the award-winning middle-grade series Keeper of the Lost Cities, as well as the Sky Fall young-adult series. Her books have been featured on multiple state reading lists, published in numerous countries, and translated into many languages. She lives in Southern California with her family and an embarrassing number of cats.

Shannon is joining the Book Festival to discuss Keeper of the Lost Cities The Graphic Novel Part 2: Volume 1.
